100x Independence: An animated poster exhibition

100x Independence is an exhibition of animated posters by the third-year undergraduate students of Stellenbosch University's BA in Visual Arts (Visual Communication Design) program. In cooperation with the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJAIT), the students were tasked to interpret the word 'Independence' in visual form. 2018 is a special year for Poland as they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of regaining independence. As 1918 was a breakthrough moment in the history of many countries, the PJAIT invited art and design students from institutions around the world to negotiate the meaning of independence in contemporary, local contexts through the medium of poster design. Stellenbosch University was invited as South Africa’s representative and this exhibition showcases the fruit of the endeavour. Five posters from each participating institution, including Stellenbosch University, will be exhibited at the Poster Museum in Wilanów, Warsaw from 29 March – 15 May 2018.
